Are you kidding me? How is it that this book does not have a hundred five star reviews?? I checked this out from the library before Christmas and made several items from the book for friends and family. In fact, it was responsible for about 95% of my Christmas list. The book is BEAUTIFUL, the photography is amazing, and the recipes are killer. This book has GREAT recipes and is so fun to look through. I made the granola (which was amazing), the chocolate covered candied citrus peels (time consuming, but a very beautiful and impressive gift--not to mention ridiculously delicious), and the cranberry jam (I think if not the best jam I've ever made then the second best). OH! And the limoncello! SO GOOD!!!Imagine my surprise when I look this book up (after renewing it from the library three times and checking it out again) and it only has seven reviews?! Crazy. This book should be on the bestseller list. This is my first Amazon review, it took this book to get me to finally give back to the Amazon community. That's pretty groundbreaking. Buy this book, you won't regret it!

I haven't tried any of the recipes in this book yet but I have read it from cover to cover. I love the idea of making my own presents so I am sure that I will have a lot of fun trying out this recipes. The book looks beautiful but I wish that all recipes came with at least one photo, which isn't the case. Sometimes all they show is a spoon full of treacle or some broken chocolate bar, which are maybe very artistic but that is not what the book is about. This is a work book for people who want to offer gifts from their kitchen, not to showcase the artistry of the designer. That said at least it is written is a proper font one can read even with less light because some cook books nowadays have such tiny and light coloured fonts that one can hardly read the recipes. There is also a good index, an index by occasion and some advice on how to sterilise jars at the end of the book as well as about the setting point for jams and jellies. One thing I don't understand is the fact that they tell you to use unsalted butter but then to add some salt to the recipe. I much prefer to use salted butter and not have to bother worrying whether I have added too much or too little salt. The bit of saltiness in the butter even enhances sweet recipes.
There are all kinds of treats in this book, even a wedding cake, the typical Italian recipe Panforte and Panettone, Stained Glass Cookies, which look lovely and are very easy to cook (I have a similar recipe in another cook book), Doughnuts, all kinds of cookies, herbal teas, Limoncello, spreads, Marinated Goats Cheese, etc. This is a truly beautiful book to give as a present as well!
Bought it as a Christmas present for a close friend. She loves to bake and give goodies away, so it was the prefect gift, and she seems to be pleased with it.
Attractively laid out, brilliant photos, terrific recipes and how to present them. she lived it!!! I'd like one for me, too!!

I bought this book for myself and have made several of the recipes for gifts--particularly the plum cordial for my son-in-law. The picutres are gorgeous and inspiring. The recipes themselves are not difficult and do not call for ingredients that you must scour the gourmet markets for. Would make a wonderful gift in itself, or friends would be lucky to be the recipients of any of the recipes.
Listened to the author on the NPR show, "The Splendid Table" and I was fascinated by the whole interview, so I decided to purchase the book for myself for Christmas really great decision. It is a gorgeous book suitable for giving or keeping. The recipes are simple and her ideas for packaging your baked gifts are clever and beautiful. I'm thrilled that I decided to order the book because it'll be a source for many great gifts to give and to keep for years.
